David James Ruland

David James Ruland, was welcomed into the Kingdom of Heaven on Tuesday February 28, 2023 in Columbia, Illinois at the age of 76.  He was born January 20, 1947 in Madison, Wisconsin to James W. and Virginia nee Topp; Ruland. Preceded in death by his mother and father and brother Thomas Ruland. David is survived by his children Kealey, Jennifer, James (Valerie) and Jonathan Ruland; beloved grandfather of Alexander, Henry, Saylor Ruland, and Gavin Mueller; brother of Nancy (Jeff) Harvey and Suzanne (Tom) Burton. David was a dear father, grandfather, brother, brother-in-law, uncle and friend to many.

Dave had a deep Catholic faith and was devoted to Our Lady of Pana. He was a regular visitor to her shrine in Pana, Illinois. He attended Mass daily until he wasn't physically able. He was intense in his devotion. He was always a delightful conversationalist. If you weren't laughing shortly after being with him, you would be soon. He loved the English language and used play on words and puns often. He refused to be down for long. Dave kept his sense of humor and positive outlook all his life. Dave was a fiercely loyal friend. He expected nothing in return, but was very generous with his time and attention. His kindness was disarming.  He was a very happy grandfather and loved the time he spent with his grandchildren.  Dave loved music and singing.  He would break out in song and take the harmony role when you would join him.  He played his guitar for years. He was humble and self effacing.  He made you feel special.

Per David's request, no funeral or memorial is being held. Interment of his ashes will be placed at a later date; at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery in Madison, Wisconsin.  David will be laid to rest alongside his parents.
