Marissa, IL

Jane E. Schaeffer, nee Brown, 61 of Marissa, Illinois passed away on Tuesday, May 28 th at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital, surrounded by her loving family and friends.

Jane was born on October 4, 1962 in Red Bud, Illinois to Max and Virginia Brown. Jane worked in the banking industry for many years and retired in 2022 as the bookkeeper for Marissa C.U.S.D. 40.

Jane had a love for travel and adventure, growing flowers in the garden, relaxing in the pool, gathering family at the table for dinner and her famous gooey butter cake, and spending time with family and friends. Jane’s laugh and quick wit could put a smile on anyone’s face. She loved her friends as if they were family. She loved hard and knew how to have a good time.

Jane is preceded in death by her parents, Max and Virginia Brown, and brother, Tom Brown.
Jane is survived by her husband of 18 years, Eric (Rick) Schaeffer of Marissa, daughters Abby McMahon and Alyssa (Patrick) Wright all of Marissa, and step-son Brian Schaeffer of Spokane, Washington. She leaves behind three granddaughters who she adored: Avery, Elody, and Hadley Wright, all of Marissa and one brother, John (Jena) Brown of Chester, Illinois.

Jane’s wishes were to be cremated with no services. She wished for us to celebrate her life and not mourn her passing. Therefore, anyone who knew and loved Jane is welcome at a celebration of life that will be held on Saturday, June 29 th at 5:00 at the New Athen’s Sportsman Club, 7601 Wildy Road, New Athens, IL.
